Benefits to a County Wildlife Site

National Grid discounted the option of maximising pylon removal by undergrounding in Area G to pylon 4YLA005 because of negative effects on a County Wildlife Site. Here we demonstrate how our proposed more southerly underground route to 4YL005 delivers significant benefits to a designated wildlife site by enabling substantial woodland reinstatement.

Two alternative underground routes that both permit the reinstatement of the area of woodland currently cut through by the pylon swathe of the 4YLA line.

Here we show how a small section of County Wildlife Area (CWA) or other woodland can be traded for the reinstatement of a far larger area of the CWA designated woodland.
